Έτοιμο το PCLinuxOS 2009.1

Έτοιμη η διανομή που δίδαξε ευχρηστία και έχει φανατικούς υποστηρικτές, αλλά τελευταία είχε μείνει λίγο πίσω. Η προηγούμενη σταθερή έκδοση (2007) είχε παρουσιαστεί στις 21/05/2007!!

Πριν γίνει το Ubuntu τόσο δημοφιλές, το PCLinux λόγω και του έξυπνου ονόματος του, είχε κατορθώσει να ήταν η εναρκτήρια διανομή για τους νέους στο χωρο του λινουξ, αλλά και για τους υπόλοιπους μιας και συνδύαζε την ευκολία και ομορφιά του Mandriva και τις δυνατοτητες του APT (και του synaptic).

The long-awaited PCLinuxOS 2009 has been released: "The Ripper Gang is pleased to announce the final public ISO image release of PCLinuxOS 2009.1. This release features Linux kernel 2.6.26.8, KDE 3.5.10, OpenOffice.org 3.0, Firefox 3.0.7, Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, KTorrent, Frostwire, Amarok, Flash, Java JRE, Compiz Fusion 3D and much more. We decided to use KDE 3.5.10 as our default desktop as we could not achieve a similar functionality from KDE 4. We will however offer KDE 4 as an alternative desktop environment available from the repository once we stabilize it." Here is the brief release announcement. Besides the main product, a GNOME edition of PCLinuxOS 2009 containing GNOME 2.24.3, Brasero, GNOME Power Manager, Exaile Music Player and other GTK+ applications, is also released. Εδω να σημειωθεί οτι η έκδοση με το Gnome είναι μια remastered έκδοση που αναπτύσσεται απο ξεχωριστή κοινότητα και βασίζεται στην βασική με το KDE.

Γι'αυτό και θα βρείτε ένα πανέμορφο Gnome με Control Center!

Mandriva 2009.1 RC1 Released

Έτοιμη η πρώτη RC του επερχόμενου Mandriva 2009 Spring. H σχετική ανακοίνωση απο το distrowatch.com:

Anne Nicolas has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Mandriva Linux 2009.1: "The RC1 release of Mandriva Linux 2009.1 (code name 'pomerol') is now available. This RC1 version provides some updates on major desktop components of the distribution, including KDE 4.2.1, GNOME 2.25.92, Xfce 4.6, X.Org server 1.6, OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 and Qt 4.5.0. It delivers a first glance at 2009.1 design with free wallpapers and provides a way to create a 'One' GNOME hybrid ISO image on a USB key. You will be able to use some very useful tools: HDT (Hardware Detection Tool) - get a complete description of your hardware without booting; Draksnapshot restore tools - restore your full system from a date you choose."
