Mandriva Click'n Backup: Online αποθήκευση αρχείων

Μετά την ανακοίνωση της υπηρεσίας Ubuntu One από την Canonical, ήρθε και η στιγμή της Mandriva να ανακοινώσει μια ανάλογη υπηρεσία, την Click'n Backup. Βέβαια υπάρχουν δυο σημαντικές διαφορές ανάμεσα στις δυο υπηρεσίες.
Κατ' αρχάς η Mandriva Click'n Backup δε διατίθεται δωρεάν σε αντίθεση με το Ubuntu One που έχει δωρεάν χώρο 2GB, αλλά στο Ubuntu One είναι 10 δολάρια το μήνα για 10 GB χώρο, έναντι 7,7 δολάρια το μήνα για 20 GB χώρο. Προφανώς για χρήστες που έχουν λίγα αρχεία τους καλύπτει το δωρεάν Ubuntu One, ενώ γι' αυτούς που έχουν ανάγκη για περισσότερο χώρο, τους συμφέρει το Mandriva Click'n Backup.
Επίσης η άριστη τιμολογιακή πολιτική της Mandriva μας επιτρέπει να προσθέσουμε επιπλέον χώρο 20,40 ή 100GB έναντι $5,96, $8,55 και $21,75. Πρακτικά έχουμε απεριόριστο χώρο για το backup και τον συγχρονισμό των αρχείων μας με τους υπολογιστές μας. Ωστόσο, ένα μειονέκτημα είναι ότι δεν μπορούμε να μοιραστούμε τα αρχεία μας με άλλους.
Τέλος θα πρέπει να σημειώσουμε οτι η υπηρεσία διατίθεται για τους χρήστες όλων των διανομών Linux, αλλά και για χρήστες Windows και MacOS!

Ubuntu One: Μια νέα διαδικτυακή υπηρεσία συγχρονισμού αρχείων

Μια νέα υπηρεσία ανακοινώθηκε από την Canonical, την εταιρεία πίσω από τη δημοφιλή διανομή Ubuntu. Πρόκειται για το Ubuntu One, μια cloud web service παρόμοια του Dropbox.
Πρόκειται δηλαδή για μια υπηρεσία που συγχρονίζει τα αρχεία σε έναν ή περισσότερους υπολογιστές, με τα αρχεία που βρίσκονται στους servers της Canonical.

Προς το παρών η υπηρεσία είναι διαθέσιμη μόνο μέσω πρόσκλησης από την ίδια την υπηρεσία, δίνοντας απλώς το email σας και τον κωδικό που έχετε στο Launchpad.

Αυτή τη στιγμή η υπηρεσία είναι σε Beta και προσφέρει 2GB δωρεάν αποθηκευτικό χώρο, ή 10 GB το μήνα έναντι πληρωμής.

Το μόνο που χρειάζεται για να χρησιμοποιήσετε την υπηρεσία, είναι μια γρήγορη σύνδεση στο internet, το Ubuntu 9.04, ένας web browser και τον απαραίτητο client.

Έτοιμο το FreeBSD 7.2!

Χωρίς καθυστέρηση ήρθε σήμερα το FreeBSD 7.2 χωρίς πολλά νέα χαρακτηριστικά, αλλά με τις αναμενόμενες αναβαθμίσεις σε KDE, Gnome και τα διάφορα προγράμματα.

Ανακοινώθηκε το Mandriva 2009.1!

Άργησε, αλλά τελικά αργά τη νύχτα ανακοινώθηκε η σταθερή έκδοση του Mandriva 2009.1 ή αλλιώς 2009 Spring.
Όπως κάθε φορά το Mandriva διατίθεται σε live cd είτε με το KDE είτε με Gnome ή σε dvd. Σε dvd υπάρχει η δωρεάν έκδοση (μονο με OpenSource προγράμματα), και η εμπορική έκδοση Powepack.
Η ανακοίνωση από το distrowatch μας δίνει πληροφορίες για τα νέα χαρακτηριστικά, αλλά και τα λινκς για να κατεβάσουμε τη διανομή. Εδω να θυμισουμε οτι καλό είναι να προτιμησουμε τα torrents ή κάποιον ελληνικό server (ftp.ntua.gr).

Parted Magic 4 με νέα χαρακτηριστικά

Ανακοινώθηκε η 4η έκδοση του πολύ χρήσιμου boot disk Parted Magic.
Το Parted Magic είναι ένα Linux livecd που βασίζεται στο Slackware και είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα εργαλεία ανάκτησης αλλά και διαχείρισης των partitions του υπολογιστή σας.

Έτοιμο το PCLinuxOS 2009.1

Έτοιμη η διανομή που δίδαξε ευχρηστία και έχει φανατικούς υποστηρικτές, αλλά τελευταία είχε μείνει λίγο πίσω. Η προηγούμενη σταθερή έκδοση (2007) είχε παρουσιαστεί στις 21/05/2007!!

Πριν γίνει το Ubuntu τόσο δημοφιλές, το PCLinux λόγω και του έξυπνου ονόματος του, είχε κατορθώσει να ήταν η εναρκτήρια διανομή για τους νέους στο χωρο του λινουξ, αλλά και για τους υπόλοιπους μιας και συνδύαζε την ευκολία και ομορφιά του Mandriva και τις δυνατοτητες του APT (και του synaptic).

The long-awaited PCLinuxOS 2009 has been released: "The Ripper Gang is pleased to announce the final public ISO image release of PCLinuxOS 2009.1. Εδω να σημειωθεί οτι η έκδοση με το Gnome είναι μια remastered έκδοση που αναπτύσσεται απο ξεχωριστή κοινότητα και βασίζεται στην βασική με το KDE.

Mandriva Linux Assembly

Following the announcement in December 2008 of an international committee associating Mandriva with its Community, Mandriva, Europe’s leading Linux publisher, has completed the setting up of Mandriva Linux Assembly.

The roles, tasks and missions of this comity set out below with the goal of motivating future members wishing to take part in this venture.

The Mandriva Linux community draws together a wide range of participants:

• distribution users who may be actively promoting Open Source and Mandriva Linux possibly within the framework of associations,
  
• development version testers whose aim is to unveil bugs and submit suggestions for improvements,
  
• packagers and developers actively involved in development,
• translators of tools and documents whether online or not,
  
• the Mandriva team of developers, webmasters, project leaders.
  

This host of participants forms the strength of Mandriva Linux. And to sustain and to harness these talents and industry it was clear we needed to give them a clear structure to work within.

Mandriva proposes a monthly newsletter delivered through assembly-announce@mandrivalinux.org. We shall raise points being currently worked upon, the products roadmap, research programmes, global strategy, OEM and enterprise activities. This mailing list can be read by all and will be complemented by mandriva-discussion@mandrivalinux.org which will allow Mandriva Linux Assembly members to submit opinions or ask for further information on the points raised.
